May 2025

Very much a mixed bag of events in March/April 2025.

Highlight was the Rugby Sevens in Hong Kong’s incredible new sports park at Kaitak at the end of March. It felt strange at first making the trek to the new venue in the bowels of Kowloon instead of the more familiar surroundings of Sukonpo in Causeway Bay where the old stadium has played host for many years. A world class event finally has a venue which meets the same standard. Friend Henry Brockman, father of my goddaughter Hedwig, also made the journey from Malang in Indonesia with the whole family so I got to see her again.

Work continued to lower my blood pressure which had hit the incredible number of 228 at the end of December. With the help of medication and a calmer lifestyle we got it down to 125/80. Now that’s the sort of number could keep a guy alive until age 100.

Once again this year the Inland Revenue Department confused me with a wealthy person so I had to pay tax on the first working day of the new financial year. Never a good way to start.

Most of my business ventures have turned out to be flops but the one (slight) exception has been Pacific Jade, the holding company of which I own one third, itself has two subsidiaries, one each for corporate services and tax advisory. A modest partial return of start-up capital was most welcome.

I hosted a meeting of the founding chairmen group in Executives Global Network, an absorbing agenda. Nephew Andrew Reid came through on his way to the mainland.

As I said at the beginning, very much a mixed bag with something for everyone.
